LEGO is a classic from childhood that brings back fond memories of sitting on the floor playing with a multi-colored masterpiece. For adults, it can be a fun way to hone the skills of engineering and math while also expressing creativity.
For others, the fun never stops: The toy maker’s Lego Ideas program gives fans a chance to turn their ideas into sets. Anyone can propose an idea and if 10,000 fellow Lego builders agree the company will think about making it a reality. This is exactly what was the case when Angus MacLane, who works as an animator, storyboard artist and director for Pixar developed an LEGO version of WALL-E from the dystopian movie. The resultant set is now available, and it’s a perfect replica of the adorable character.
Another popular set that came to life via the Lego Ideas process is the massive mech from Voltron: Defender of the Universe. It’s made for advanced builders and comes with some amazing features, including the pilot’s movable hands delta wings that can open and close, and a posable nose.
Usually, sets are available for a period of two to three years. Then they are replaced by a new version. This is a rare instance: a design created by brothers Marc and Nick Parsons, based on the Back to the Future tree house, was so well-loved in 2022 when it debuted that it now enters its fourth year of being on shelves without any sign of slowing.
